What is this project about?

Our city launches for the first time a citizen participation project. Residents will have the opportunity to take the lead! A budget of 100,000 USD is provided for the changes you would like to see in your neighbourhood. Do you have an idea? Share it!

Which ideas are eligible?

The budget will be divided among the ideas that gather the most votes and meet the following criteria:

Passed the feasibility criteria;
Cost of maximum 100,000 USD per project;
Promotes equity in the city.

When can I vote?

Voting starts in the third phase of the participatory process.

Kory Skiles4 years ago Only one historical building is left at the Schuman Square in Brussels. The building dates back to 1928 and has maintained its classical style throughout the years. However, a plan has been set in motion to demolish the historical exterior of the building by placing an unsightly steel construction over its classical roof. Will you allow the mutilation of a historic building located at the center of Europe? Help us preserve this piece of history of Brussels and sign our petition!We appreciate as much help as we can possibly find. So even if you are not an inhabitant of our City, we would kindly ask you to distribute our proposal amongst as many people as possible.

Owen Kunde4 years ago A giant chess board could make our central square more lively.It is also a fun way to introduce kids to the game. Chess is a game that can be played by all ages. But it can sometimes seem a bit elite. That's why a real-life game can make people curious to learn about the rules and play.It will also benefit the social cohesion in the neighbourhood. It's a reason for old people to come out and play. We might think of also including smaller games on tables for people with disabilities.A civil servant or volunteer could be there on specific moments in the week to help people and answer questions.

Elden Waters4 years ago There are no playgrounds in District 2 compared with 0.44 playgrounds per 1000 children for the rest of our City and 0.26 playgrounds per 1000 children in District 2. Playgrounds help encourage children's cognitive, physical, emotional and social development and also their families. For this reason children in the areas surrounding District 2 should have access to nearby, quality playground with structures for both toddlers and older children.There are seven primary/preparatory schools in the vicinity of District 2, and also several children’s playgroups at local churches, but there are no outdoor play area for the children.We would like to ask the City to allocate funding for the building, inspection, maintenance and cleansing of a new playground.

Cecelia Moore4 years ago I took the same route where many people got robbed lately. I and so many more like me, feel scared to pass that road now. Not just that road, almost every other road in the city is like that. Her last words were, “I feel scared!” and it breaks my heart to write that these are the same words that I hear from a lot of women.Every time the media reports such crimes, the only thing that people outrage about is giving death to the perpetrators. No one addresses the basic issues that are a threat to women’s safety on streets on a daily basis. Simple, easy to do things like having pedestrian street lights on the roads is the need of the hour. Well lit streets are ranked highest by most women in terms of what improves their safety. Even the CCTV cameras that our city is so proud of, won’t be able to pick up video footage if there is no light, so what is the point of having those cameras? This problem needs to be fixed immediately. Please support my proposal so that women feel safe walking on the streets. Our city has a problem of dark spots: places that are not properly lit. These dark spots are a menace to the city and our women. Women are subjected to, or are afraid of harassment, eve- teasing, cat calling, stalking, chain-snatching and sexual assault when they have to cross these dark spots. I cannot put down in words how scared we are to walk on unlit roads. Roads that have poor lighting are hostile towards women and in our city, media has reported that there are 50-60 dark spots with no lighting at all. An enquiry by the previous commissioner of GHMC also showed that there are 20,000 broken street lights in the city. All women everywhere need to feel safe.

City Admin -4 years ago The city has plans to pave a 10 foot asphalt bike trail and cut down trees through a heavily wooded section along Washington Boulevard at the edge of a Towers Park. The design requires cutting approximately 100 to 130 small, medium and large canopy trees for less than 1/2 mile (a 2 minute bike ride) of bike trail.The wooded area shields District 1 from the ugly view, the pollution and noise of constant traffic from Washington Blvd. These trees provide habitat to a variety of birds and animals who would lose their homes and food source due to construction and tree loss.The District 1 community has lost hundreds of trees recently due to commercial and residential development and new infill housing. We don't think building a bike trail should kill trees.Other alternatives have been proposed to the County by District 1 residents and the Urban Forestry Commission. These alternatives will result in significantly less trees being cut down but would also result in less cost to us all as tax payers.

Georgine Ward4 years ago Some crosswalks are hardly visible and car drivers often don't drive carefully enough around them, creating dangerous situations.In this proposal, crosswalks are painted in 3 dimensions, giving the impression that there is an obstacle on the road and thereby forcing drivers to slow down. Many accidents could be avoided this way.There are only two proper crosswalks that are just under a mile away from each other. We need more crosswalks. Now.Please share your comments on where you think that crosswalks are missing.
